NJPAC: DJ Kid Capri & Albert King link for helping the bros
One of my favorite low-key spots to mess with? The New Jersey Performing Arts Center over in Newark and how about gearing up to see Kid Capri and former NBA player Albert King talking about men’s health this month? Say less.
NJPAC welcomes Kid Capri and Albert King for Men’s Health
It’s more than just a music celebration. How about both entertainers getting together to join a panel of advocates focused on men’s health and wellness? Peep the deets.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) will host the first in-person Standing in Solidarity program of the season on Monday, November 17, at 6PM. Doors will open at 5PM for resource tables and health screenings.
Inspired by Movember — a global movement that encourages mustache-growing to raise awareness about mental health, suicide prevention and early detection of prostate and testicular cancers — the conversation will focus on the importance of early detection and healthy lifestyles for men.
“As an anchor cultural institution in Newark and New Jersey, NJPAC is dedicated to the well-being of the communities we serve,” says Dr. Sherri-Ann Butterfield, Senior Vice President of Social Impact at NJPAC. “Our Standing in Solidarity series is one way we amplify important topics, such as this month’s theme of promoting early detection and regular medical care for men. This Community Engagement event is vital to our work supporting healthy communities and hopefully will save lives.”

The conversation will be moderated by Marcus Randolph, President and Chief Executive Officer of INVEST NEWARK. Featured panelists include Dr. Jose R. Bustillo, an internal medicine physician; Kid Capri, GRAMMY Award-winning DJ and hip hop legend; Mark Comesañas, Executive Director, My Brother’s Keeper; and Albert King, retired member of the NBA who played for four teams including the New Jersey Nets.
The evening will include blood pressure, colon cancer and other health screenings, plus useful resources from 50 Commerce Dental Center, AARP, Brick City Run, Clara Maass Medical Center, LivFit Fitness and RWJBarnabas Health.
In partnership with Dodge Poetry, the program will open with a performance by Paul LaTorre, aka Paul con Queso, a published poet and member of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe who uses verse as a means for activism around mental health and social justice.
Standing in Solidarity is NJPAC’s ongoing series of conversations built around issues of social justice that is supported by the PSEG Foundation. Many of these programs include a screening of a socially-engaged documentary paired with a thought-provoking, post-screening talk by a panel of practitioners, academics, journalists and others deeply engaged with the topic.
“PSEG is deeply rooted in Newark and we stand alongside organizations like NJPAC in prioritizing the well-being of our neighbors. We are committed to the safety, health and wellness of our community,” says Calvin Ledford, President PSEG Foundation & Director Corporate Social Responsibility at PSEG. “Raising awareness about important topics — like early detection, preventive care and access to local health resources — is essential to building a stronger, healthier New Jersey. The PSEG Foundation believes that economic mobility, affordability and well-being are essential pillars of a thriving community. Events like this not only connect residents to valuable information, support and health screenings but also inspire lasting habits that raise awareness and promote wellness long after the day is over.”
All attendees will be entered into a raffle to win a new Apple Watch courtesy of AARP. To RSVP for the November 17 program and for more information, visit Standing in Solidarity.
